2:45 pm–3:30 pm: Sara Yood and Mary Kate Brennan on Making Sense of Trademarks and Copyrights and How Emerging Brands Can Protect Their Intellectual Property
Sara Yood, senior counsel, Jewelers Vigilance Committee
Sara Yood was named senior council at the Jewelers Vigilance Committee in 2016. Her responsibilities include trademark monitoring, trademark litigation, advertising monitoring, creating legal compliance tools and publications, and general legal support. She also has additional expertise in U.S. and international laws concerning the import and export of animal materials used in jewelry and has authored multiple JVC publications illustrating the laws surrounding the jewelry industry. She has been a featured speaker at many jewelry industry events, including JCK Las Vegas, AGTA Tucson, the United States Import-Export Council, the Manhattan GIA Alumni Association, and the Fashion Institute of Technology, among others.
Mary Kate Brennan, associate, Epstein Drangel, LLP
Mary Kate Brennan focuses her practice on all aspects of intellectual property litigation. She has co-authored two amicus briefs with the Fashion Law Institute, first to the Supreme Court in the seminal copyright case, Star Athletica v. Varsity Brands, and second to the Federal Circuit in the Converse v. ITC trade dress matter. She also has coordinated and participated in multiple professional education presentations and pro bono clinics relating to fashion law. Brennan is a member of the Fashion Law Committee at the New York City Bar Association, an executive committee member of the Fordham Law Recent Graduates’ Committee, co-founder of the Holy Cross in Fashion Alumni Affinity group, and a Junior Advisory board member of the Cornelia Connelly Center. She was also selected as the 2012-2013 Dean’s Fellow for the Fashion Law Institute, the world’s first center dedicated to law and the business of fashion.
