WJA NY Metro | A Rough Look at Emeralds with, Real Gems
Join us as we take "A Rough Look at Emeralds" and learn about the current sourcing of rough emeralds and the analysis, metrics, and steps that go into emerald manufacturing. This session will serve as a basic primer on some of the world’s major rough emerald sources and current production.
Shekhar Shah will discuss how emeralds are still one of the few stones to be cut using a traditional cutting method and will also share some of the samples he has in his office along with some footage of this traditional cutting method.
About Shekhar Shah
Shekhar Shah oversees business development and sales/marketing for the USA and European market for Real Gems, a 46 year old third generation family business based in New York City, whose primary product is loose emeralds. Shekhar has been involved in the emerald trade since forever. Starting as a kid helping out his dad and uncle at the office, Shekhar has been at Real Gems for some 20 years. Currently, Shekhar volunteers on the Board of Directors of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA).
