Makers Event 2018: Overview
4th Annual Makers Event: The San Diego Chapter of the Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) is hosting our 4th Annual Makers Project Event to benefit our local and national WJA scholarship programs and we welcome your participation.
This is a two-part jewelry and wearable art design challenge with a fun twist, and it is open to everyone! This year’s Makers Project, we are focusing on the Theme, “Life’s A Circus”.
The first part of the event, Makers: Artist Exchange, will take place at 57 Degrees Wine Bar at 6:00pm on April 26, 2018. The second part of the event, The 4th Annual Maker’s Auction will take place at the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park in San Diego on August 4th at 6:00pm.
Part 1: The Exchange
Date: Thursday, April 26th
Time: 6:00pm – 8:30pm
Location: 57 Degrees Wine Bar, 1735 Hancock Street, San Diego, CA 92101
What: Bring one unfinished bench piece to exchange with another participant. In addition to their traded item, each participant will also be allotted one colored gemstone and 6” of 10 gauge Sterling Silver wire.
You as the “Maker” are now committed to going back to your studio, adding something new and creating a wearable piece that will be entered into the scholarship auction. Your design guidelines are very open. Your challenge is to use all of your elements and creatively address the idea “Life’s a Circus” into a wearable piece. The rest is up to you to have fun and be creative. Remember this is a contract- you are committed to finishing a piece and getting it to us in time for photography and the auction.
Part II: The 4th Annual Makers Auction to raise money for WJA Scholarship
Date: August 4th
Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park, 1439 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101
What: We will have a combination of silent auction, live auction, and raffle pieces to raise as much money as we can for local and national WJA scholarships. It will be an evening of networking, wine and cheese, and great support for education in our industry.
Cost: Each Maker will receive one complimentary ticket for the event, additional tickets can be purchased (more info to come). We will have a vote on whose piece was the most successful piece of the evening. The winner will receive publicity through WJA San Diego and an additional prize that will be announced at The Exchange. Any pieces that do not sell at the auction will be returned to the artist, unless otherwise stated by the artist
We are asking you to be included in this event to give back to the WJA scholarships. This is a donation on your part, but we will do our best to make it a fun and exciting event to be a part of with as much publicity as we can get. We are very excited about this event and know that we will have great support from many levels of artists. We want to have support from you!
