From Asscher Cut to Royal Asscher Cut. Listen to 6 generations of diamond tradition, Lita and Mike Asscher join us in telling about their family business from 1854 till today.
Mike Asscher began his career at Royal Asscher in 1998, training as a diamond cutter and polisher. During his early days in the family business Mike qualified as a diamond grader at the High Diamond Council (HRD) in Antwerp. He then went on to study at the world famous Gemmological Institute of America in Carlsbad, California becoming a graduate gemmologist. Working his way through the business alongside his father Edward and Uncle Joop, Mike became a diamond buyer, quality controller, then head of production before becoming co-president. Mike now oversees new business development in Asia and Europe. He has drawn on 20 years of experience in diamonds to co-create the new patented Royal Asscher Oval and Royal Asscher Cushion Cuts. Husband and father of four Mike strongly believes in continuous career development. In 2008 he studied at the European Institute for Brand Management in Rotterdam. In 2018 he began studying for an MBA at Nyenrode Business University in the Netherlands.
The ultimate jewelry fan, Lita Asscher splits her time between her beloved Amsterdam and the dazzIing Iights of New York City where she is President of Royal Asscher of America. Lita joined the family business in 2002 from Dell Computer where she previously worked as an account manager after gaining a business degree from Amsterdam’s Hogeschool University. As well as pioneering Royal Asscher’s retail and partner relationships strategy in the US and Europe, Lita is the creative tour de force behind Royal Asscher's jewellery collections. Her creativity is rooted in the women she meets and the personal stories of celebration, joy and sentiment associated with their diamonds and jeweIery. Lita uphoIds and strengthens the sociaI responsibiIity standards across the company and is a member of (WPO) Womens President Organization, a past board member of WJA (Womens Jewelry Association), a JVC (Jewelers Vigilance Committee) past board member, DDG (Diamonds Do Good) board member. A mother to two daughters, Lita has a special interest in issues affecting women and girls on a broad social scale.
