WJA NY Metro | All That Glitters Is Not Old, with Dr. Jack Ogden
Ancient gold treasures have a huge allure. Therefore, it not surprising that ingenious fakers have long been supplying a ready market with everything from fake Egyptian rings, to Greek wreathes, to Medieval pendants. Dr. Jack Ogden has been researching early jewelry for half a century and has advised museums, collectors, and auction houses worldwide on problems of authenticity. In this talk, he will introduce some of the objects he has encountered, from the cunning to the frankly weird, and explain how one sets about trying to spot the spurious.

About Dr. Jack Ogden
Dr. Jack Ogden is a British jewelry historian, specializing in the study of early jewelry materials and techniques. and has written and lectured widely on these subjects. He is a Visiting Professor in Ancient Jewellery Materials & Technology, at the School of Jewellery, Faculty of Arts, Design and Media, Birmingham City University, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, and a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars. He is the former CEO of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, and was Secretary General to CIBJO (The World Jewellery Confederation), from 1995-2000.
