Snuff Bottles from the MIA Collection with Dr. Liu Yang
Join WJA Twin Cities Chapter on Monday, Feb. 1 at 6pm, for a Zoom presentation of Snuff Bottles from the MIA Collection.
Presenting will be Dr. Liu Yang, the head of Chinese, South and Southeast Asian Art Department, and Curator of Chinese Art at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA)
Dr. Liu Yang will be speaking on Mia's vast collection of Chinese snuff bottles, and their fascinating motifs and materials. Snuff bottles were used to contain snuff, or powdered tobacco, which users inhale through their noses. It was introduced into China from Europe in the early 1700s and became widely popular. Storage bottles, often with stoppers ending with spoons to extract the snuff within, soon caught on throughout Chinese society.
